The museum is open from 3 - 7 pm on Tuesdays during the Pfarmer's Market in Heritage Park (May through October) and the first Sunday of the month from 1 - 4 p.m. (year round). We often hold special events, programs, and displays during these open hours. In addition, the Heritage House Partners have several annual events. Photography Contest: What Does Heritage Mean to You? (Entries accepted through July 24)
Library card holders are encouraged to submit photographs for a chance to win Ancestry DNA kits provided by the Heritage House Partners. Three winners will be selected. The winning photographs will be displayed at the Heritage House Museum during August and September. Entries should be emailed as attachments to firstname.lastname@example.org in JPEGs no larger than 15 MB per file. The deadline is July 24. For more details, see the contest guidelines.
Humanities Texas Display – Citizens at Last: The Woman Suffrage Movement in Texas (June 4 – July 11)
The museum presents a special traveling exhibit produced by Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. “Citizens at Last” focuses on the twenty-seven-year campaign for woman suffrage in Texas with panel topics covering the national beginnings of the movement, early Texas leaders, anti-suffrage sentiments, efforts to amend the Texas Constitution, primary suffrage, and, finally, the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment.
Austin History Center Presents – African American History in Travis County and Juneteenth (June 20, 6pm)
Join us for a special presentation by LaToya Devezin, African American Community Archivist at the Austin History Center, on the history of Juneteenth and African Americans in Travis County.
Photography Contest on display (August 1 – Sept 26)
Winners of the Heritage House Photography Contest will have their photos on display at the museum. The exhibit will begin with a special opening on August 1.
Family History Month Speaker – The Importance of Stories (October 3, 6pm)
Join us for a special presentation by storyteller Thatcher Freund on the importance of stories, especially how they relate to family history.
Walk-in Genealogy Help (October 10 – Oct 31, 3-7pm)
We will offer walk-in genealogy assistance with a focus on how to use library electronic resources and other free websites to learn about your family history.
