Fiction Writing Series, Part I: Setting from Scratch: Fantasy & Sci-Fi Worldbuilding

Join author and retired professor Tracey Lander-Garrett in this fiction writing series from July through September. Anyone 18 and up is welcome. (In order to minimize distractions, these classes are for adults only.) Space is limited.

Series dates and topics:

July 17: Fiction Writing: Setting from Scratch: Fantasy & Sci-Fi Worldbuilding
In this workshop, participants will study the trappings of various sci-fi and fantasy settings before creating their own fantastical worlds.

August 7: Fiction Writing: Boogers and All: Creating Believable Characters
In this workshop, participants will learn how to produce fictional characters that seem like real people by imbuing them with character-defining flaws and other traits.

August 21: Fiction Writing: Beyond Cat Scares: Creating Suspense and Terror
In this workshop, participants will examine the different types of terror and how to use the five senses to create spine-chilling scenes.

September 4: Fiction Writing: Page Turners: Angst & Danger in YA & Romantic Fiction
In this workshop, participants will observe how a protagonist’s emotional and physical danger keep the reader riveted and jeopardize their own characters to similar effect.
